Equipment Operator Medium - Utility Field Operations ID - 12676

Description

 

Performs intermediate semiskilled work operating medium equipment to excavate at construction sites, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Senior Crew Coordinator.

Examples of Duties

 

  • Uses medium equipment to excavate ground at various job sites. 
  • Maneuvers materials and equipment at job sites; ensures accurate placement of materials and equipment; transports equipment to job site when necessary. 
  • Performs backfilling duties in accordance with DOT standards. 
  • Assists in setting up and maintaining safe work environment. 
  • Aids and assists crews with repairs and installations; assists crew with manual labor and job site cleanup. 
  • Performs pre-trip inspection of equipment and vehicles. 
  • Manages crew in the absence of the Senior Crew Coordinator

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, practices, and procedures; thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and departmental legal guides, recommendations, best practices, ordinances, and laws; thorough knowledge of industry standard and department specific equipment and materials; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; ability to perform manual labor; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public. Ability to comprehend and comply with OSHA laws and regulations.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED and moderate experience working with construction equipment, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements

This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work requires the ability to maneuver up to one (1) mile on foot; work regularly requires speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, reaching with hands and arms, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions, frequently requires walking, sitting and lifting and occasionally requires standing and stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm’s length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires working near moving mechanical parts, working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to vibration, frequently requires exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and occasionally requires work in confined spaces, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, and exposure to the risk of electrical shock; work is generally in a very loud noise location (e.g. jack hammer work, heavy traffic).
