About the position

The Senior Planner position at the City of Menifee involves providing advanced level professional planning services, including project management for complex development applications and special projects. The role requires administering activities related to zoning, subdivision ordinances, and the General Plan, while also offering technical direction to staff and coordinating with various stakeholders. The position emphasizes fostering cooperative relationships among city departments and external agencies, and it includes responsibilities such as preparing staff reports, conducting site visits, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as project manager for multiple complex current and/or long-range planning projects and special planning studies.
  • Administer activities related to zoning, subdivision ordinance, and General Plan.
  • Provide technical direction to paraprofessional, technical, and clerical staff.
  • Coordinate assigned activities with other City departments, officials, outside agencies, and the public.
  • Prepare and present staff reports and conduct public hearings.
  • Review project applications and plans for compliance with regulations and policies.
  • Conduct site and policy background research for staff reports and presentations.
  • Evaluate environmental impact reports and monitor project compliance with mitigation measures.
  • Develop and maintain automated tracking systems and records.
  • Provide technical assistance to planning staff.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in urban planning, architecture, public administration, or a related field.
  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible professional experience in planning, zoning, and related community development activities, preferably with a government agency.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver's License by time of appointment.
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Certification is highly desirable.
