About the position

The Storekeeper I - Fleet (Parts Attendant) position at the City of Beaumont, Texas, is a full-time role responsible for maintaining inventory and ensuring the efficient operation of parts management for the fleet. The individual in this role will be tasked with posting additions to inventory, checking the accuracy of received inventory against purchase orders, and managing the orderliness of storage areas. This position requires the employee to pick up and deliver parts, aid in determining inventory needs and specifications, and perform data entry for perpetual inventory control. The Storekeeper will also assist in the preparation of purchasing and receiving reports, work at the shop parts counter, locate repair parts for mechanics, and issue parts from inventory. Additionally, the role involves cleaning the parts area and performing inventory cycle counts, as well as participating in biannual inventory assessments. The working conditions for this position include both indoor and outdoor environments, exposing the employee to various weather conditions, dust, and fumes. The Storekeeper I must be available to work Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the possibility of overtime and weekend work as necessary. The schedule may be subject to change based on operational needs. This role is essential for ensuring that the fleet is well-maintained and that parts are readily available for repairs, contributing to the overall efficiency of the city's operations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains inventory and posts additions.
  • Checks accuracy of received inventory against purchase orders.
  • Picks up and delivers parts as needed.
  • Responsible for the orderliness of storage areas.
  • Aids in determining inventory needs and specifications.
  • Orders parts and performs data entry for perpetual inventory control.
  • Aids in preparation of purchasing and receiving reports.
  • Works at the shop parts counter and locates repair parts for mechanics.
  • Issues parts from inventory and cleans the parts area.
  • Performs inventory cycle counts and participates in biannual inventory.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in inventory control or general storekeeping is necessary.
  • Knowledge of automotive, heavy truck, or construction equipment parts is essential.
  • Familiarity with inventory management and storeroom procedures is required.
  • Ability to perform routine computations with speed and accuracy.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to transfer data accurately by hand or automation.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
  • Must be able to operate a forklift.
  • Valid Class C Driver's License with a good driving record is required.
