Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Medical Coder to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical coding, with expertise in CPT and ICD-10 coding systems. This position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate coding for medical records, which is essential for proper billing and reimbursement processes. The Senior Medical Coder will work collaboratively with healthcare providers to maintain compliance with regulations and improve the overall efficiency of medical billing operations.

Duties
• Review and analyze medical records to extract relevant information for coding purposes.
• Assign appropriate codes using CPT-4 and ICD-10 CM code classifications.
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of coded data to facilitate proper billing and reimbursement.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to clarify diagnoses and procedures as needed.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical terminology, coding guidelines, and regulations.
• Conduct audits of coded data to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
• Assist in training junior coders on best practices in medical coding and documentation.
• Support the medical billing team by providing insights on coding-related queries and issues.

Education/Experience
• High school diploma required.
• American Academy of Professional Coders Certification – CPC required.
• AAPC specialty certification in Orthopedics preferred.
• Valid driver’s license for travel as requested by manager.
• Certified Orthopedic Surgery Coder Certification (COSC) and/or a compliance/audit certification from an accredited organization preferred.
• Ten years’ experience in a surgical office, hospital, or other health-related enterprise as medical coder.
• Proven experience as a Medical Coder, with a strong understanding of medical terminology and coding systems.
• Proficiency in CPT and ICD-10 and other relevant coding guidelines.
• Familiarity with medical billing processes and collections.
