Veterinary Technician

Full-Time/Part-time - NO Saturdays beginning in May 2023

SouthPark Animal Hospital is a 5 doctor Veterinary hospital in the heart of South Charlotte. We are seeking full-time and/or part-time technicians to join our fast paced practice team of skilled providers. Our veterinary technicians work closely with the veterinarians to provide the highest quality of medicine in a compassionate caring environment where all of the staff members passionately love animals. We offer preventative care, general medicine, surgery, digital radiology--brand new system, dental cleaning and extractions, ultrasounds, therapeutic laser therapy, and full in-house Idexx lab services. Applicants who are registered technicians should have a minimum of one year of licensed experience and be able to assume the technical responsibilities listed below. Candidates who are not licensed technicians but who are skilled in the responsibilities listed below are welcome to apply. Each candidate must have strong client communication skills, a positive attitude, and a team spirit. Knowledge of the EzyVet cloud based practice management software and its integrations is a plus. Digital records are maintained through the EzyVet software. Hourly compensation is based upon experience, responsibility and skill competency.

Responsibilities of the technician include but are not limited to performing the following:

Get along with a well-rounded staff

Always show respect for the doctors and fellow staff members

Demonstrate compassionate care at all times

Assist with physical exams of patients
Properly restrain animals during exams or procedures

Take and record vital signs

Draw blood and collect stool samples and perform laboratory tests

Prepare animals for surgery and assist with surgeries

Take and process x-rays

Clean and polish teeth

Remove sutures, clean wounds, and change dressings

Trim nails and groom animals

Maintain and update patient records

Clean and sterilize instruments, equipment, and exam rooms

Fill prescriptions, prepare and label medications and contact pharmacies

Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments prescribed by the veterinarian

Be able to lift and handle animals easily

Communicate with pet owners, pharmacies, and veterinary supply companies

Be capable of processing a referral to a specialist

Order and restock supplies

Appropriately handle the loss of a pet

Answer the phone and schedule an appointment

Follow up with clients

Be able to solve problems and handle stressful situations

Be able to adapt to changes in protocols due to events such as the Covid-19 Pandemic
