We are looking for a Head of Engineering to lead product AI feature development, quality, personalization, and growth within the Central AI organization.

What you’ll do

As the Head of Engineering, Product AI within the Central AI organization, you will lead efforts to ensure the development and deployment of high-quality, reliable, and impactful personalized AI solutions across Atlassian's products and platforms. You will oversee the engineering department, driving the development and delivery of cutting-edge technology solutions while ensuring alignment with the company's strategic objectives and product roadmap. Your role is critical in driving innovation, maintaining AI quality standards, and fostering collaboration across teams to deliver transformative AI experiences.

Compensation

At Atlassian, we strive to design equitable, explainable, and competitive compensation programs. To support this goal, the baseline of our range is higher than that of the typical market range, but in turn we expect to hire most candidates near this baseline. Base pay within the range is ultimately determined by a candidate's skills, expertise, or experience. In the United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:

Zone A: $303,200 - $400,000

Zone B: $272,900 - $363,800

Zone C: $251,700 - $335,500

This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.

Responsibilities

Your role and impact

  • Define and execute the engineering strategy for Product AI quality, ensuring alignment with Atlassian's AI vision and product roadmap.

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, data scientists, and designers, to integrate personalized AI solutions into Atlassian's ecosystem.

  • Oversee the development of frameworks and tools to evaluate and ensure the quality, fairness, and reliability of personalized AI models and systems.

  • Drive the adoption of best practices in AI quality assurance, including rigorous testing, monitoring, and validation processes.

  • Ensure the scalability, security, and ethical deployment of personalized AI technologies.

  • Partner with product and engineering teams across geographies to integrate quality-focused AI solutions into Atlassian's suite of products.

  • Act as a thought leader within the organization, advocating for responsible AI practices and continuous improvement in AI quality.

  • Represent the Central AI team in external forums, showcasing Atlassian's commitment to AI quality and innovation.

  • Strong product sense with the ability to understand product drivers and align technical initiatives with customer and business outcomes.

  • Proven track record of building influential relationships and trust with senior leaders across various departments.

  • Experience with multi-modal LLMs and/or domain-specific fine-tuning.

  • Familiarity with responsible AI principles and practices.

  • Knowledge of cloud-based ML platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).

  • Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field.
