Maintenance Supervisor - Stormwater ID - 12383

This position supervises and participates in a variety of semi-skilled tasks connected with the use of heavy equipment to maintain stormwater infrastructure.

 

Essential Job Functions

 

  • Responsible for managing the operations of all equipment, maintenance and repair activities, maintenance personnel, and equipment performance. 
  • Maintains activity log. 
  • Coordinates, assigns, and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
  • Assist with equipment repairs and potential procurements.
  • Coordinates work with contractors and other utility providers.
  • Ensures maintenance tasks and procedures are in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Performs job-site inspections to investigate damage and conclude the repair assignment, including the mitigation of overflows.
  • Procures supplies and materials; maintains inventory of repair parts.
  • Investigate complaints and accidents.
  • Supervises the installation and maintenance of traffic signs, pavement markings, and traffic control for construction and maintenance work. 
  • Plans and completes special projects to upgrade or improve work processes or infrastructure maintenance.
  • Completes and submits weekly time sheets; fills out leave, compensation, return-to-duty, overtime, and other personnel-related documents.
  • Trains personnel in tools and techniques.
  • Maintains professional certifications and attends training.
  • Participates in establishing and enforcing policies and procedures; participates in departmental planning activities.
  • Ensures the correct preparation and application of maintenance, landscaping, beautification, and cleanliness activities.
  • Assists in developing program improvements; investigates citizens' complaints and issues, and works to resolve.
  • Completes accident and injury forms.
  • Maintains accurate records.
  • Logs work orders to the 311 system.
  • Responds to after-hours emergencies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED equivalent; with four (4) years of experience or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 

Must possess and maintain a valid state commercial driver's license with an acceptable driving history (Class A).

Additional Requirements
Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post-offer/pre-employment medical screen, and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Director assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES: Guidelines include plant operation guidelines; local, state,; environmental regulations; city policies and procedures; and safety policies and practices. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY: The work consists of varied administrative, supervisory, and technical maintenance duties. The need to perform multiple tasks at the same time contributes to the complexity of the position.
SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to supervise mechanical repair and maintenance activities. Successful performance in this position ensures an adequate supply of safe drinking water.
PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers, department heads, other city employees, elected and appointed officials, state and federal agency representatives, engineers, consultants, architects, business owners, developers, vendors, and members of the general public.
PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, motivate personnel, provide services, resolve problems, justify decisions, and negotiate and settle matters.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in an office, at department facilities, or outdoors. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices, such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
