Police Records Technician I ID - 12882

About the position

The Police Records Technician I position at the City of Portsmouth involves performing highly confidential administrative tasks related to the management of criminal and law enforcement records. The role requires input, retrieval, research, updating, and filing of records, while providing support to law enforcement personnel and the public. The technician will report to a Police Sergeant and is expected to maintain high standards of accuracy and quality in their work.

Responsibilities

  • Assist, query, and disseminate criminal history information to authorized personnel.
  • Enter, modify, and cancel information on the NCIC and VCIN systems.
  • Assist with citizens' reports and provide information assistance.
  • Collect, enter, and maintain felony criminal case files in the Records Management System (RMS).
  • Process and file subpoenas and maintain police personnel folders.
  • Review offense and accident reports for quality control.
  • Provide customer service including police reports, fingerprinting, and local criminal record checks.
  • Take non-emergency police reports from citizens.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1-2 years of administrative work experience, including experience using computers.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain NCIC/VCIN level certification within six months of hire.
